Hi Donna,
when you do a ctrl-alt-del, go to applications and end those. Thats all.

Yes, if you start shutting down services and other things running in the
background, problems will start, depending how far you go and what you shut
down.

It is save to just close the items in your task bar at the bottom of your
screen if you aren't sure. That should be enough for a safe install.
