Hi Joyce,
The short answer = Click Tools menu, and select Options from the menu list.
The other answer = If you run into a problem like this, Google Search is your friend :)
Query : "Disable thunderbird automatic updates" and you'll have a result in 2 sec flat - ok 5 sec for you on dial-up.

Conversely ,most of those type of settings can usually be found under Options or Settings of a program.
If you really need to download large files sometimes , make friends with the local library staff ;)
and bring a flash drive :)

Subject: [PCSOFT] Nag screen
I keep getting a nag screen urging me to download a "security and
stability" update for Thunderbird. Since I am still on dial up, the
download is more than 20 meg, and I can't tie up the phone line for the
24 to 36 hours it would take, is there a way to turn off T'bird
updates? I'm very happy with T'bird as it stands.
Win XP SP 2, still on my old eMachines. Thanks in advance!
