Thank you for a great tip Jess, the Atlantis Nova freeware text editor
indeed does what I was looking for - enables selected text to be underlined,
bolded or italicised with hotkeys.
It's an excellent program, particularly in view of the fact that it's free,
and it's producers are to be congratulated.
Every so often, I run across a piece of software that makes me yell out
loud, 'Oh wow, this is brilliant!'.
Nova is one such. I have a feeling that I mightn't be using Word for too
much longer.
