Although I have not seen this problem, our school's labs have reported
similar symptoms. The reported problem comes up when using the open file
dialog from within Word. If the file is opened by double-clicking it from
Windows Explorer, or by selecting the file name from the recently used
files, then there is no problem.

That is all I have for now - no real solution, but a possible workaround.
