since you recently installed a program which placed NN on your desktop I assume you must need it and are not talking about turning off NN.
if you are running Win95 (check requirements) and can download Power Toys, http://www.microsoft.com/Windows95/downloads/contents/WUToys/W95PwrToysSet/Default.asp, I believe that under Tweak UI, it has an option to hide the NN.

Or if you are feeling adventurous, you can edit the registry at
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
by changing the value of NoNetHood from 00 00 00 00 to 01 00 00 00 (if this value is not already there, you can add it as a new binary value) afterwhich you will have to reboot your computer for NN to disappear. be careful in the registry.

A long time ago,I was able to delete the
Network Neighborhood icon from my desktop.
Today,after installing a program,the NN
icon reappeared on the desktop. But now,I
cannot remember how I deleted it.Could anyone
tell me how I can do this deletion?
Thanks,Gary Burke.
