Hi Dick,
    I use a free shutdown utility, Poweroff 3.0, by Jorgen Bosman. I have used it with both Win 98 and Win 2000 Pro. I have it scheduled to reboot my computer once a day.
     I have also used Shutdown Launcher from Shenandoah Software. Don't remember where I got Poweroff but a quick Google search provides multiple results. 
    Personal opinion is I like Poweroff better but don't remember my concerns about Shutdown launcher, been too many years since I used it.

  I am seeking a program that will perform an automatic (scheduled) shutdown of my Win98 machine, much the same as can be accomplished with WinXP (shutdown.exe).  If you can steer me to such systems, I would appreciate it!
