Seems you need to open the file (with the wrong format) in
some sort of editing program (or some viewers) and
see if there is a "File, Save As" feature with a scroll box
with the selection of a file type that you can "save to" that
would be one that is usable by your friends.
Also look for something that says "Convert" or similar words.
