Hope I was not misreading your mail.
Right click on the taskbar-->Toolbars, click to uncheck My documents.

I'm trying to clean up a friend's computer.  It has Windows 98 on it.  =here
is a toolbar down the side of the desktop that seems to list all =he files
in the My Documents folder.  How do I get rid of this toolbar?
