 This means that you do not have a program that will not automatically be default and open the attachment.

You can try different programs to open the attachement by trial and error, but easier is to look at the file extension to determine what program will open it. For example .doc is a MS Word extension.

If you have no clue, open your browser a do a search based on the file extension and that will tell you what you need to know. OR do a search for "file extensions" there are sites that will list all the known extensions.
