Dolan,
You have two options and neither may be a satisfactory answer. You can
change your screen resolution to a higher setting (I'm guessing you
currently are using 640x480) such as 800x600, but if you have a 14" or
smaller monitor this will result in very tiny text and images.
The other option is to reduce the size of the display fonts in your web
browser. This will again result in smaller words but
pictures/images/graphics would still "hang over the edge".
As an example of why this happens, if the page designer creates a page to
fit on an 800 pixel wide screen but your monitor is set up for 640 pixels,
then 160 pixels will be off the edge of the screen and you will have to
scroll left/right to view the entire page. (A pixel is a screen "dot")
Most web page designers were creating pages at 640 x 480, but statistics
show that the greatest majority of web surfers are using monitors set up for
800 x 600 resolution. The last survey results I saw were around the
beginning of the year and showed 48% of the people are using 800x600,
30-something% at 640x480, 12% (I think) at 1024x768, and the other
resolutions split about 3-5% each)
So over the last 18 months or so the web developing community has gradually
been switching to an 800 x 600 screen size as the "standard".
