I hope I split the thread properly... (grin)
I want to add to my answer based on other posts I read
and agree with.

I assumed (incorrectly?) that the purpose of striping
all "quote marks" from a message was to "forward"
it to a third party, I also assumed conversations
WERE NOT being forwarded.
This would NOT be recommended with MOST "list" type
transmissions involving "REPLIES" where you (and the
reader) need to "sort out" who said what.
My answer was based on what I do when forwarding
things such as jokes, tips, articles, etc., that
"happen" to show up with (sometimes) excessive
"quote marks" that have NOTHING TO DO with the content.
Hope that helps... Rick
