Rick -- You may want to visit  these two web sites, Fibre Channel Fundamentals,  http://www.spectralogic.com/fibre/fcfund.htm  and Fibre Channel FAQ's, http://www.elew.com/fcfaqs.htm. The latter site is a "little" dated but the info explains the technology. HTH. :-)
