Print a self-test page by doing the following:
"Simultaneously press the Go and Reset buttons on the printer's
Status Panel while the printer is in Ready Mode."
(From page 3-4 of my 5P User's Manual)

Those are the only 2 buttons on the top left of the printer.
(From page 3-4 of my 5P User's Manual)
The number you are looking for is "Page Count" about
a third of the way down the page.

If the toner cartridge will print 4500 sheets (it depends on
the amount of black on the sheet) then 4 cartridges should
last for 18,000 pages. And I would need my 5th for 18,001.
I'm guessing that I have now bought 4 of them (the first
came with the printer,) so that all seems to add up okay.

My younger daughter has retired her top loading Okidata
laser that only cost $150 new. My other daughter has a
top loading multifunction (printer, copier, and fax) that she
can not aford to give up on. It is (I can't remember - maybe
a Brother) that cost about $600 a couple of years ago.
