If the problem is just a lockup during the install phase,  the first thing
I would do is open the CMOS settings of the Bios and "disable" your
L2 cache.   Typically, this will allow you to install Windows.  Once you
have finished your install, you can re-enter the CMOS and "enable"
the L2 cache once more.

I see this all the time, mostly with an AMD cpu or overclocked Intel
Celerons.
