This is a stab in the dark.  But I have been told that the CPU temp peaks
immediatley upon shutdown... I assume this is because the fans all stop, but
the heat buildup hasn't dissipated...

the scrambled vid is the only clue that makes me think your processor may
just be too hot, right at that time, to run...
