Hello List,

I just installed a system for a customer, and it developed a little problem.
In my shop I tested everything before sending it out, including using my ISP
to test dial-up connectivity using a Motorola SM56 PCI Modem. It all worked
fine.

When I installed the machine I was extremely grieved to find out the
customer uses AOL. However, being the customer service oriented individual
that I am, I tried to keep my whining to a minimum as I installed AOL 4.0 on
the computer (it was heartbreaking(sorry AOL users)). I connected to AOL
fine, but now the modem will not completely hang up after shutting it down.

I also installed Groupwise, which connects directly to a mail server where
she works. When I dialed that up to get her mail the same problem occured.
The connection icon went away when it was done downloading, but the modem
still had the phone off-hook. In both cases there was no modem noise when
we picked up the phone, but neither was there a dial tone.

As a temporary work-around, I set up a Hyperterminal session that calls her
own phone number. If we open that up, tell it to dial, then hang up after
it gets the operator recording, the modem finally hangs up and she can dial
up AOL again. Any ideas?

The system is:

PIII 800Mhz
Abit VH6 MB
128MB PC133 RAM
Voodoo 5 V5500 64MB Video
12X DVD (can't remember brand/model off-hand)
SB 128PCI Sound
Maxtor 20.4GB HD
100MB ZIP internal

Thanks for your help.
