  Really good 3D cards will take as much work as the CPU will give
them -- this moves the bar, but the limit is still based on the CPU
for a while yet.

  It's interesting to watch how "Quake and Quake II are written to
take advantage of FPU pipelining on Intel processors" turns into
"Cyrix and AMD are no good for games".  It's a bit broader
generalization than is really called for.
