WIA can be an issue if you are using camera software for downloading photos. I had a problem with a Kodak DC 280 using Kodak's software in Win Me, which also has WIA. Kodak had a small program that disabled WIA so that I could use Kodak's software. See if your camera manufacturer has some tiny little program to disable it so you can use the camera's software. Now I have a Canon S30 and use a Dazzle 6 in 1 card reader to transfer photo files to my hard drive. Lot faster and no software. If you do that you can skip the camera's software, and need only plug in the USB card reader. I don't believe you need drivers for it in XP or Win Me.

I can add the camera in devices, and the device manager says that it is working fine. However, the camera does not show up in any applications as a source - my scanner does. I have removed and reinstalled the camera driver numerous times with no luck. When I install the driver, a window pops up asking me what applications to start it with, but there is no listing of applications - there used to be. The WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) service is running - my scanner works fine. The camera driver is WIA compliant. I am about to re-install XP from scratch but would appreciate any input from others that may have run into this.Peter
