If your LT has a CDROM, you can easily use a Knoppix or
a Mepis Linux "live CD" with as little as 128 MB of
RAM, but more is better; you can boot Linux in RAM only
and do everything you now do in Windows.

You can't get any more secure than that, Linux and RAM.
Both distros are wireless capable, self configuring,
free, if but for a 680MB ISO download.

You can opt to purchase a CD for a few bucks, but if
you're still DSL capable, the download won't be such a
bother and you can burn your own disc.

I'm using MEPIS now, as I write this, from RAM only,
DUN 33KBps. It loads a firewall too, as default.

Knoppix v. 3.8.1 is very good too. I Installed that to
HDD.

All GUI stuff, OK? If you know a little Konsole, fine,
but you don't need it. MEPIS is easier, IMO, for a
newbie. Oh, and Open Office is MSOffice compatible and
is included, along with CD-DVD burning software (K3B,
it's called, not Nero), etc, etc.

"Point & Click" Linux!
