Alfreda,
 One more suggestion (which probably should have been the first one),  
disconnect the monitor cable from the computer then re-connect it. I now recall  my 
brother having this problem and it was just a loose cable.

No, It didn't.

If you

I did this  and it seems to have updated the driver. Unfortunately this 
hasn't  helped.
