Wow, I had sent this previously and the hot links got filtered out making it less than useful. Will try again and spell it out.

 was going to post a question here about drivers but came across a 
couple tools that might resolve my problem which could be helpful:
The Intel Driver Update Utility http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
 Intel System Identification Utility http://www.intel.com/support/siu.htm
One
 of the results I got were a suggestion for an upgrade (which I am 
questioning on their forums because the driver description says it's for
 Windows 2000 even though I have an XP computer.) Results included:
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer,This version is valid,This device is unknown or unsupported, andNewer Driver Available.Thought these links might be useful in your repair tool kit.
