itm appeard you install xp over programs that were not originally created to
run with windows XP.
There a a few programs that were created prior to release of windows Xp that
will still work.
However in gemeral when you upgraded you should have been prompt if any
compatinbilty issues with windows xp in certain of the programs already on your
computer. There you windows setup would let you know any sofaware or hardware
drivers would have to be reinstalled, or they would not work under windows xp.

I would uninnstall windows xp over your windows 98 and try to retrieve your
files, then i would back up important documents or files. Now these programs
that would not work under windows 98 try to see if there are newer versions of
the software on your computer. newere versions will be windows xp compatible.
hopefully this helps

again i storngly recommend you backup your files and other documents to
removable media in event of data corruption or other miscues.
