Well, the way you describe the operation (deleting and not reclaiming the
space) sounds logical to me.  This is similar to how my old "Direct Tape
Access" software used to work on my QIC-80 tape backup drive.

I guess I am the one doing something wrong here.  Hmm.  Worth a look
again.  Thanks for explaining.
