It sounds as though you have a cable connection that isn't properly set
up. Typically, there is no logon with cable:You're connected all the time.
If you're using XP, you might try the New Connection Wizard
(Start/Settings/Network Conections}.
You may need help from your cable company as well.
If you write back, tell us the Operating system and  type of computer.
