I have been asked to fix an emachine T1090 by someone who bought it used. When powered on there was no display or warning beeps. The monitor worked when connected to another computer. Upon examination I found the video connector where the video cable plugs into the motherboard to be loose and wobbly. I then installed a PCI graphics card and connected the monitor. Now the computer hangs at a screen that says "emachine". If I hold down the "TAB" key after powering on I get the following:

Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
Copyright 1985-1999
Ver. 5.01
Cpu Celeron 900mhz
130048K system mem passed
0128k system sram passed
system & Video BIOS shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: E724
Mouse initialized

PRESS <DEL> to enter SETUP

At this point the system stops responding. If one holds down the "DELETE" key when powering on, the same thing happens except after initializing the mouse it says "entering setup" and then stops responding. (The keyboard works when connected to another computer.)

I would appreciate any advice on the cause and possible solutions to this problem. Also if I replaced the motherboard (and case if necessary) would I be able to salvage the Windows XP operating system on the hard drive using the emachine recovery disk?
