Problem is, as Russ mentioned, the OEM nature of the installation.
I have yet (as of 5:10 PM 01/05/05) to hear whether my client has
located the correct HP System Restore Disk(s) for his laptop. I suspect
they may be necessary. My only other option (given the information
provided by the MS KB article to which I was referred) may be
to use an interesting little Admin password reset utility that runs
a 'mini' version of Linux providing access to the NT file system.
Perhaps I can copy the c:\windows\repair\system file to the
c:\windows\system32\config folder using it? If I can't run a repair
setup from the HP disk(s), this may be my best recourse.
[Now where did I put the cigars, roosters, rum and incense, mon?]
