Of the major brands (Maxtor, Seagate, WD, IBM, etc), I am not sure there is one
"better" or "best" brand. I think it is mostly luck of the draw. I have had
great experiences with Seagate SCSI drives. On IDE drives though, I had a bad
Seagate that took a long time to diagnose, mainly because the symptoms seemed
like something else, memory, CPU, or video.

The system, almost from the start, would hang randomly. I changed memory, CPU,
updated drivers, etc. No luck. I lived with it (about a year) until recently
when it would start hanging or crashing, the disk would start making funny
noises. Occassionaly, when doing a reset (no power off), the disk would not be
recognized by the BIOS at POST time.

I changed it out for an IBM, and it has been 100% rock solid for two months now
(I haven't even rebooted it!).

This is running Windows 2000 Pro.
