Hey Becky,
The "cure" for this maybe a setting in your BIOS. Usually under "Advanced
Settings" will be a listing similar to "Win98 floppy seek". You will need
to "disable" this setting. I see you call yourself a "novice", if you need
more help, and some coaching....my eMail is

Subject: [PCBUILD] Windows 98 randomly tries to access empty A drive

The subject line says it all I think. Many times a day, sometimes every few
minutes, the green A drive light comes on and I hear a grinding sound. My
computer is about 3-4 years old.....333 Mz speed with a 10 gig hard drive.
Any ideas?? Thank you

Becky Buehrer
