It may be a good idea to check out Aptiva's site for any new drivers or
software for this particular machine in case there are newer available than
you have on hand.  Sorry if I state the obvious.

My brother would like me to erase any data on his Aptiva, which he plans to
donate.

Are there any special considerations with this machine?  It's physically
different from the boxes I've just begun delving into.
