I don't know that I have a specific answer for this, but I do question
whether or not the connection to the motherboard from the HDD light is on
backwards or not.  In my experience, it will simply not work if this is the
case . . . however every computer is different.  You can try removing the
case, finding the appropriate wire to the HDD LED and switching it around on
the connector.  Maybe the ground wire is on the wrong pin?????
