Cliff,

Performance-wise there is no difference.  Either bus can feed data to (or
receive from) the modem __MUCH__ faster than the modem can send through
the phone wire.

We discussed all the esoteric pros and cons early last month.  If you
search the list's archives you should be able to find a wealth of
information about this.
