A friend of mine is stuck with a rather strange problem. He has a Compaq
Presario
4504 computer that used to contain a Zoom PCI Winmodem. This modem used COM2
and
IRQ10. He had no problems in installing it and running with Dial-Up
Networking. Recently,
he removed the Zoom modem and installed a Creative Labs Modem Blaster V90
ISA
(this modem is not a Winmodem) to free up a PCI slot. He removed the Zoom
modem
from the Add/Remove Programs control panel as well as from the System
control panel
(he is using Windows 98). This all went smoothly, and he installed the new
Creative Labs
Modem, which is a plug-and-play modem with no jumper adjustments. The new
modem
configured itself to use COM4 and IRQ10.

The new modem was properly detected and shows no conflicts or other error
messages
under system properties. He can also select diagnostics and everything
checks out OK.

The problem is he cannot select this new modem under Dial-Up Networking when
he tries
to create a new connection. The modem does not show up in the list to pick
from. He has
tried uninstalling/reinstalling Dial-Up Networking and this had no effect.
He also reinstalled
the Zoom modem, and it showed up correctly under Dial-Up Networking new
connection.

Any help would be appreciated,

Ron Roane
