To adjust the volume from AOL software, start the software, On the sign on
screen, click * setup* then click on *expert setup*  then click on the
*devices* tab, and then *edit* you now have a small screen with some options,
one of them is volume, adjust this to your preferences. On mine, I have the
volume completely off for my modem so I never have to hear it
