Are you referring to a USB jump drive/thumb drive portable memory 
device that plugs into a USB port?  If so, some of these have a 
small switch that secures the drive as read only, similar to the 
tab on the back of 3 1/2 floppy disks.  If this is not what you 
are referring to, please send more details.
