This is the configuration that is currently in place and working.(All
networking and internet connection sharing  features).
The differences I noted:
Addition of the LAN settings which didn't show in my previous Ipconfig/All
DHCP enabled on the 98 machine.
The 0 and 1 Ethernet adapters have switched places, with the addition of a
driver for the 1 adapter.
DNS server (192.168.0.1) Added for the 98 machine.
I'm not sure I understand these issues any better than when I started, but
as is usual for me, I make my greatest strides by maing mistakes.
