I'm not really sure why the prevailing thought is that
if you're on a dial-up connection you don't need
spyware or a firewall or any such security/privacy
device or software.

This is untrue. Take a look at ad aware and it's log
files and you'll see that to be untrue as well. I ran
it the other night on my dial-up and came up with 12
different incidents.

I suppose if you never go to a site that uses
doubleclick as an ad server or go to any sites that
use no advertising or tracking, you're ok. If you
don't use Comet Cursor, you'll be ok as well.

There's a lot of software out there and even if you
avoid as much as you can. you will still find spyware
on your system.
