I have been trying to install a new Zoltrix 56K modem in my in-laws
machine ( HP Pavilion 7280P ). I have followed the instructions exactly
and the system does not find the modem properly and shows conflicts in
the Com Ports under W95 Device Manager.

I have gone through the BIOS and disabled COM2 ( there are no other
ports/IRQs available on this machine ) and set the modem to use COM2.
If I disable COM2 and leave the modem out of the system, w95 still
detects a COM Port, but it can not set it up ( has yellow exclamation
). No matter what I do, I can not remove it because it always detects
it again. If I put the modem in on COM2, then do an 'Add new hardware'
it will find the modem on COM2, but it will also detect this other COM
Port mysteriously ( it always shows the yellow exclamation ). It
detects COM1 without a problem.

I have tried removing Ports through SAFE MODE, but W95 normal mode finds
them again.

Anyway, the problems this causes too is that it will not find the
additional 'stuff' that comes with the Zoltrix modem, like the Wave
Device ( this is a Voice/Fax/Data modem with Speakerphone ). When I
force it to find it, it always comes up with a yellow exclamation next
to the Zoltrix Wave Device. If I remove it, it will not find it again.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This HP is about
to drive me crazy ! HP's website tells how to replace the modem, but
this does not work either. It just states to take out the old one and
put in a new one in the reverse order of taking it out.

If I've left out any pertinent info, please let me know.

Thanks in advance...
