Interestingly, those links give a wealth of USB information and drivers
available from *other* sites.

The information does not include generic Microsoft USB drivers, but it does
include other drivers that may work on some systems.

Most of the links give information about various releases of Windows,
including Windows 95. In all but a few cases, the information then jumps to
Windows 98SE - as if Windows NT and 98 First Edition never existed!

In some cases, the information recommends a BIOS upgrade. If that is indeed
the case, then I do not believe that a Windows upgrade would handle the
problem.

The bottom line:

It is possible to use a USB port on computers that were built for versions
of Windows prior to Windows 98SE. However, it may not be worth the effort.
