Hi,

about the com port:

You would have to go into the BIOS and see if it is activated. Ususally on
a Compaq you press the F10 key on startup to go there. Unless you really
have a need to use the COM2 Port on the Main board, I suggest you leave it
disabled.

When you install a PNP device, like a PCI PNP modem, it will usually pick
the next available com port (depending on PCI slot used). This com port
is not usually seen in the device manage under com ports, but rather under
the modem properties. You'll only see the hard, main board or add in card
com ports under the device manage com port setting, not the soft win
generated ones.

Remember the KISS principle and the old saying if it ain't broke, don't fix
it!.

----
about the restart:

You may have to go to the compaq support website and see if they have any
fixes for that problem.

Also, when you think everything is all installed properly, do a last ADD
new hardware search one more time. Sometimes windows will find another
device that was not set correcrtly because of some other minor conflict,
fix it, and all then works well.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
