A cursor appears & blinks above the “s” on the setblaster line.  This
appears after all of the BIOS stuff & just pre- desktop.  I do nothing & it
just continues on it’s way to booting up.
What the devil is this?

This line is inserted into the autoexec.bat file in your root
directory/folder (generally C:).  It sets an environment variable for
SoundBlaster and SoundBlaster compatible sound cards.  You can see if the
sound will work without it by placing "REM " (that's REM and a space) in
front of the line, reboot, and try some sound files, etc..  If things don't
work, remove the "REM ".  If they appear to work, leave the line there so
you can remove the "REM " in the future, in case something needs it.

Leaving it alone will also not hurt anything.

REM in front of a line in an autoexec.bat file tells the OS the line is a
"remark" and not to be executed.
