A Prescott core Intel cpu is one that uses a socket 478 motherboard. If you Google, "Intel Prescott," you will get a reference to
Tom's Hardware Guide and another to ExtremeTech where you can read about it.

It is not clear - are you wanting to put a Prescott cpu into a motherboard that you currently own? The motherboard must use a 478
socket. Whether or not you will see an improvement is questionable. Ideally, you would have the specs for the motherboard which
would show what the chipset supports, i.e. FSB, Memory.

Generally, but not always, it is a good idea to replace motherboard, cpu, and memory all at the same time. Placing a new cpu into a
motherboard could, possibly, improve performance. You need to give more details of the motherboard and memory for anyone to make an
educated guess. I would be a little hesitant to drop a cpu into a motherboard just because it fits. I don't know if all socket
478 motherboards will supply enough power for all socket 478 cpu's. So, I don't know if you could do damage. I don't **think** so,
but I don't know for sure.

Not much help, but you need to provide more details with a question like this.

Subject: [PCBUILD] "Prescott" core P4 Intel CPU's

Am looking to up grade an older MB with a 2.8 GHz P4 1GB/533FSB CPU. Heard the Prescott core CPU's use faster memory than most older
MB can support. Exactly what is a Prescott core, how whold I know if the MB I have will support it and, if not, what type of core am
I looking for.
