That's because after a fresh OS installation you're running on the default VGA adaptor.  You need to install drivers for the video card in the machine.  Check with the person you bought the Tpad from to find out what video card is installed.  You can also try the IBM web  site for this info. Then download the latest driver for the card either from IBM (preferable) or the card manufacturer.    Follow the instructions for installation of your video card.
