Mark,
Go into the BIOS, and turn off COM2. Make sure the modem is set to use COM2.
Whats happening is, the system is grabbing that COM port, and the modem
can't use it. That should work for you.

Subject: [PCBUILD] COM Port Troubles

Here's a good one for somebody...

I am working on a friend's PC. When trying to dial out on the modem, an
error stating that the COM port is already in use pops up. I have tried
reinstalling the modem, installing a different modem, making sure there are
no IRQ conflicts, etc. I have tried COM1 through COM4 with the same
results.

The modem is an internal Zoom 56k. I have even tried using updated drivers
for the modem. The OS is Win98SE.

The strange part is that when I reinstall the modem and reboot, it will dial
out. But, if I shut the computer down and restart, it gives the error
message again when I try to dial out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
