MoBo with 2x/4x AGP - and Vid Card 4x/8x?

Howdy-

I'm trying to upgrade my video card- however, I'm running an MSI 645E Max MoBo, which according to the online specs has an AGP 2x/4x slot.  The majority of video cards I can find which would be an upgrade are all 4x/8x. I'm confused on the fact that both have "4x" - would a 4x/8x card work in a 2x/4x slot? Or do I need to find a standard PCI card instead?
