        I suggest you check:
        -Dial another modem, perhaps a BBS.
        -Perhaps there is a problem with your telephone line. Do you go through a
PBX? Then, try to test going direct.
        -Try another line, perhaps moving your modem or your PC.

  Applying logarithms: (-1)*ln(-1) = ln(-1)
  Since ln(-1) <> 0, dividing:  -1 = 1     (ln(-1) is complex, but exists)
