I have a Toshiba Satellite 2595 CDS, 400Celeron, 192MB RAM, 4G HD. It has
been working great until yesterday. I installed BeOS Personal Edition, played
with trying to get my network card to work, and then left it on overnight. My
wife got up some hours later, and noticed the screen was still on, so she
closed the lid halfway. The next morning (yesterday), the screen was off, as
usual, and I wiggled the mouse to wake it up. No response, so I tapped a few
keys, still no response. I hit the reset switch, and the drive started
working like it was booting, but nothing appeared on screen, even playing with
the contrast control.

I hooked up an external monitor, and when I rebooted, could see everything on
the monitor. The Fn(F5) key combination switches between external monitor,
LCD and both, and seems to work fine, except the screen never lights up. (The
monitor is switched on & off properly)

It seems to me the likely culprits here are a burnt out backlight or a bad
screen connection. The machine is under an extended warranty, but am I
overlooking something obvious before I return it for repair?

Thanks
Glen Sagers
