I am a novice at this, only 15 months, but I am learning much
from this list. I don't understand why downloads should be in a
separate folder. Why? For example. I downloaded the V.90 update
for my modem. It just shows as a folder (file?) on my C drive. It
didn't help at all because as I have learned from this group, my
phone line is old, old, old. Also a long way in the country from
the ISP.
But why a separate folder, and what effect does it have on
whatever you have downloaded?
Another question. Why does my system lock up when I disconnect
from the ISP. Doesn't happen but occasionally, enough to be a
pain. Ctrl-Alt-Del nor Esc will cure it. Reset or power off
brings up the scan disk on next boot up because of illegal shut
down.
Final question. What is meant by soft shutdown?
Thanks from a rookie.
