I haven't used XP in a while, but it sounds as though you've added the
desktop toolbar to your taskbar, hence the addition of My Docs and My
Computer. Rt-click the taskbar and look under Tolbars, de-select
"Desktop".
As for SP2, you'll find many newer programs won't work without it.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Taskbar growing
From: Phillip Williams <[log in to unmask]>

Hello all,

While playing a downloaded game demo with several windows open, my
frantic mouse clicking some how jumped out of the game window and
caused my taskbar to double in size with open windows on top and My
Documents, My Computer, Network Places and Recycle Bin showing below.
I tried dragging the top edge down but the whole task bar drags off
the screen. I right-clicked the task bar but couldn't find a setting
to change it back.

I guess I could do a restore to fix it(?) but I would rather know how
to find the setting to change it and thus, know how it happened to
begin with.
(Windows xp sp1)

Thanks,
-Phil-
