Old 40 pin and a change from Cyrix to anything else Intel or AMD would
be better. I wouldn't go out and purchasee anything, but if you have an
extra chip, I'd use one of the latter two. System should read the older
drive no problem. I wouldn't install the older one till after you have
your working OS installed

Subject: [PCBUILD] Which cable for hard drive

I will be installing a new Maxtor 20G 5400 hard drive in an older system
with Asus SP97-V motherboard and Cyrix 6x86 233MMX processor. The
previous OS was W95 and will now be W98SE.

Questions:
Which type of HD cable will I need for the new drive, "new 80 pin" or
"old 40 pin" ? Should I, or can I, change the CPU to Intel ? Will the
new 32bit OS read/write the previous W95 hard drive which will be a
slave ?

Thanks, Bob Lendrim
