Hi
When you swapped drives, did you check the jumper settings for the new
drive?
If the burner is on the same ribbon as the hard drive, make sure you have it
set to be slave.(with the hdd as master)
If it is on an entirely different ribbon, make sure the jumper is set to
'single' or master or words to that effect.
I had a similar problem recently with a used, non-branded card reader that
had been given to me, so I just had to alter jumper settings until I got it
right. (there were no jumper instructions on the drive itself as with alot
of drives)
